October Birthstone - Opal

October 14, 2019

Oh, mighty opal of October. There's not much that needs to be said about its beauty. Flashes of color dancing in a glimmering stone. This birthstone is as versatile as it is colorful - use it for playfulness and strength, tenderness and truth, to amplify your karma and keep your cool all at once. Keep reading for the good stuff

Opal is an underdog who keeps it real.

It’s like the child actor who falls from grace through none of their own wrongdoing, and then makes a comeback as an inspired, grown-up polymath that dabbles in anything to do with intelligent social commentary.

It’s a stone that drops truth bombs more often than rappers drop F-bombs – opal brings up traits and characteristics to the surface for examination and transformation.

Opal absorbs and reflects light as it dances, and likewise, it picks up thoughts and feelings, desires and buried emotions, amplifying them and returning them to the source.

Some of the stuff that comes up can be bitter to taste, but the only way out is through, right?

You gotta know to let go and grow, right?

Luckily, opal also focuses on the positive actions and emotions of the self, enhancing the good and true, to foster high-energy potential. It is a karmic stone with a reminder that what you send out always comes back. Life’s just a good ol’ merry-go-round.

Opal and optimism go hand-in-hand. It keeps it real and raw, but not without setting up the scaffolding. Within, opals can spark a childlike playfulness, a motherly strength, a fatherly tenderness, a sisterly joy, and a brotherly love. It’s one big happy family.

the Sanskrit upala, meaning ‘precious stone’, and later the Greek derivative Opallios, meaning ‘to see a change of color’
