Antique cut diamonds are those using cutting techniques from before the 1930s. Think cut by hand rather than machines. Larger, more asymmetrical facets than the brilliant cut diamond, so the diamonds glow like a candle more than a fire.
The old mine cut dates back to the 1700s. An old mine cut diamond typically has a large culet, deep pavilion, small table, and a high crown. In terms of shape, the modern cushion cut comes closest to it.
The old European cut (OEC) resembles the modern brilliant cut diamond with its round shape. It differs from the brilliant cut diamond with it’s open culet, deep pavilion, small table and tall crown.

Your Custom Antique Cut Diamond Ring in Gold will be made to order with the antique cut diamond of your choice in around 8 to 12 weeks. You'll receive a photo before we ship it out. The price is for one finished ring in 18 karat eco gold.

Your custom ring design
Metal
You can choose from 18 karat yellow gold, rose gold or white gold. We use 18 karat ethical gold, which is mined and processed with traditional, mercury free, low impact practices by indigenous Dayak women in Central Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo, who receive fair pay. Our 18 karat white gold is alloyed with palladium. This white gold has a warm gray color. If you prefer that white metal look, we recommend adding rhodium plating for $50.

Setting

Based on personal knowledge and/or written guarantees provided by the supplier of these diamonds they are conflict free and mined in accordance with the Kimberley Process.
Gardens of the Sun goes beyond conflict free. Since our sourcing policy came into effect in November 2018 we only purchase diamonds from known origins. We avoid sourcing diamonds from Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Russia (last purchased in 2019), Sierra Leone and Zimbabwe.

Ethically sourced from artisanal diamond miners in Indonesian Borneo. Graded as fancy brown color, SI2 clarity and fair cut grade. One pit on the girdle, which would be covered with a bezel setting. Measures 5.4 x 5.4 x 3.6 mm. Comes with a diamond certificate from SKGL, a women-owned lab in South Kalimantan, graded by a female GIA graduate gemologist.
- AOC6 - 0.35 ct antique pear cut diamond. Mined by artisanal diamond miners in Indonesian Borneo, and cut by an independent diamond cutter in South Kalimantan, Indonesia. This antique cut pear diamond is shallow like a rose cut diamond, with a large culet, and slightly lopsided. It’s elongated shape gives it nice finger coverage for the weight. Measures 5.9 x 3.6 x 1.9 mm.
- AOC7 - 0.11 ct single cut white diamond with a large culet. Ethically sourced from artisanal diamond miners in Indonesian Borneo, and cut by an independent diamond cutter in South Kalimantan, Indonesia. Comes with diamond memo from SKGL, a women-owned lab in South Kalimantan, graded by a female GIA graduate gemologist. Graded as faint yellow (L) and very slightly included (VS2 quality).
