Shipping & order status

How much is shipping?

We ship from Bali (Indonesia) to anywhere in the world. 


DHL worldwide, except for Russia (3 to 5 business days)

FedEx worldwide, except for Russia (3 to 5 business days)

RPX for domestic orders, free for orders of $50 and up. 


If you spend $250 or more, we’ll ship your order for free using DHL or FedEx. 


Please note that you're responsible for any tax and duty fees on orders required to go through customs. Gardens of the Sun doesn't have any control over these fees and we can't advise as to what the costs will be, as they vary by country.

Who will be responsible for any tax and import/duty fees?

Depending on your country, duties and taxes may be charged upon delivery. You are responsible to pay these duties and taxes. Paying these duties and taxes releases your order from customs. 


If you have any questions, your local customs office can assist you best. Gardens of the Sun doesn't have any control over these fees and we can't advise as to what the costs will be, as they vary by country. 


If you refuse to pay duties or taxes, your package may be destroyed by customs. Some customs offices offer the option of returning your package to our office. In that case, we will refund your order minus any duties and taxes we pay upon arrival at our office. 


When can I expect my package to arrive?

All ready-stock items are shipped within 2 working days of your purchase, excluding national Indonesian and Balinese holidays.


Unless agreed otherwise, custom made jewelry is shipped in around 6 to 9 weeks for silver jewelry, or 8 to 13 weeks for gold jewelry of your purchase.

Please note: for shipping to China or India, shipping may require extra time due to current restrictions. Once your new goodies have left our hands, you can expect to see them coming through your door within 7 days (sometimes an additional 3-5 days).


We know it can't come fast enough for you (it'll be worth the wait!) so just hang tight for more updates while we do a quick double-check if shipment to your address is possible so we get them right where they belong – with YOU.


India's import policy will require some KYC documents like your passport/driver’s license/voter ID, permanent account number (PAN), and authorization letter. To ensure easy customs clearance when entering India's borders, we'll ask you to provide us with these documents.

Do you offer fast shipping upgrades?

For faster shipping, please select a premium shipping service, like DHL or FedEx. These normally take up to 5 business days to destinations worldwide. This excludes any time the package may spend at customs or delays if no one is home to receive the package. 


We offer free fast shipping for orders of $250 and up. 

How long will it take for my order to ship?

You’ll receive a notification email with details on how to track your package. 


If you have a pre-ordered or custom item(s) within your order, the whole order will be shipped altogether when all your items are ready. 


Unfortunately, we can't be responsible for any delays caused by destination customs clearance processes, local duties and taxes, and items that are lost in transit.

How long will it take for my custom order to ship?

Any made to order pieces may take 6-10 weeks to complete from the time you place your order. 


For silver jewelry, we're often closer to 6 weeks.


For gold rings - especially white gold - it's leaning more to 10 weeks. 


All our white gold jewelry is rhodium plated. Since we don't do this in-house (we've found an amazing production house that can do this at international standard), it takes a few days longer. 


Once your jewelry is ready, we'll send you a message with some photos of your finished piece. Once you've given us the OK, we'll send it off and you’ll receive a notification email with details on how to track your package.

I'd like to get a ring custom made, but I'm in a rush. Can I get it sooner?

Your satisfaction is really important to us. Our made to order rings usually take 6-10 weeks to craft, but if you need your order by a specific date please shoot us an email at info@gardensofthesun.com. We'll try our very best to get it to you in time! 

What's the status of my custom order?

We know how excited you must be to receive your piece! The turnaround time for us to craft your jewelry is 6 to 12 weeks from your date of purchase. This excludes shipping times, and may need a little longer if you selected white gold (needs additional rhodium plating) or added engraving. 


If you still need to confirm any order details (e.g. ring size, setting, necklace length), we’ll get started once you’ve confirmed this.

What's the status of my repair?

If you can let us know your tracking number, we’ll keep an eye out in the mail and drop you a message as soon as we receive your package back in our studio. 


Please note that the turnaround time for repair will start only when we receive the ring back at the studio. It usually takes about 2 to 3 weeks for a simple repair. It may take longer if we need to re-make your jewelry or for more complicated settings. 


I can't be there to sign for my package. What do I do?

If you'd like to make sure you'll be there to receive the package or deliver to another address, you can manage it through FedEx Delivery Manager or DHL's On Demand Delivery. These are free services are available for you to choose how, when, and where the courier delivers packages to your home.

What happens if my package fails to be delivered?

Please make sure that your delivery address and phone number are correct, so your goodies get to you as quickly as possible!


As the recipient, you're responsible for any subsequent costs incurred for parcels returned to our studio due to attempted deliveries, insufficient/incorrect delivery information or failure to retrieve parcels from delivery centers. 


We offer shipping protection on all orders. The cost depends on the value of your order. You can select to add on shipping protection at checkout. For more information on shipping protection, go here


I want to gift your jewelry. Can you ship it directly to the recipient?

Yes, of course we can ship it directly to them! 


All jewelry comes with complimentary gift wrapping too. Leave us a note in the box during check-out if you'd like to add a personalized message. 


Returns & Exchanges

Do you accept returns?

We want happy customers that love our jewelry! You can read our Love Guarantee for our promises, and more information on how return works on our Shipping and Return Policy page.


TL;DR? 


We accept returns on ready-stock items within 14 days of receiving your order. If the jewelry is meant as a gift and you need more time, please let us know beforehand. 


Please email info@gardensofthesun.com with your order number and why you'd like to return it (this helps us do better next time). To be eligible for a return, your jewelry must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. This means free from scratches, blemishes, sizing or alterations, and without signs of wear or tear. It must also be in the original packaging. We don't accept returns on custom made jewelry.


Unfortunately, custom orders (including engraved pieces and special ring sizes) are non-refundable. Since your ring will be made especially for you, we don’t accept returns on custom orders. We do want you to be happy with your piece. If the item is damaged or we made a mistake, we'll work with you to fix it. Can I cancel my custom order?

There is a 48 hour time window for you to cancel your custom order. A custom piece is handmade especially for you, so once production starts it can't be cancelled. 


What if I need something changed on my order?

We work hard to process your orders as quickly as possible, in order to get them to you sooner. For this reason, we can't usually make any changes to your order once it has been processed. If you need to make any changes or cancel your order please contact us as soon as possible at info@gardensofthesun.com so we can see how we can help you.


Oh no! The ring I bought doesn't fit. Now what?

If you find your ring doesn't fit, you can return it for a full refund or exchange it for a different size. Just make sure to contact us within 14 days of receiving your ring. Unfortunately, custom orders (including engraved pieces and special ring sizes) are non-refundable, as it's made especially for you.


Not all rings can be resized due to the type of setting. This is the case for our Hidden Gems rings, where resizing basically means remaking the ring from scratch. In that case you may want to return the ring and exchange it for another one.

My jewelry is damaged / My necklace tore / The stone came out of the ring... Something broke. How do we get it fixed?

Nothing breaks our hearts more than broken jewelry! If anything happens to your piece, all is not lost - we’d love to fix it for you. 


If your jewelry arrives in less than stellar condition due to mishandling during shipping or any mistakes in production, please contact us within 14 days of receipt. We'll replace your jewelry at no cost as timely as we can. 


If it's damaged due to a fault on your side, we're still happy to help. You can always send it back to us for repairs. You'll be charged for any materials, labor, and shipping incurred. Don't worry - this usually isn't much. 

I lost my earring :( Can you replace a single earring?

That depends. If we have the right diamond or gemstones in stock you may purchase a single. 


Our pieces are made by hand and often with uncut gemstones. As a result, each piece will vary slightly in size, shape and color. In some cases, we'll ask you to send the mate to us, so we can better match it for you. 


The cost for replacing one earring is typically half of the cost of the pair.

I don't know my ring size. How do I find my ring size?

If you have the opportunity we highly suggest getting sized by a professional jeweler. We find that people differ in the way in which they prefer their rings to fit. Some wear them loosely, while others like to wear them more tight.

What's a pre-order?

We all love a fan favorite! Pre-order items are sold out bestsellers that are currently being re-stocked. If you have pre-ordered item(s) within your order, the whole order will be placed on hold and shipped once when the item(s) are back in stock (within the timeframe stated on the pre-order product page).

Can I get a piece that's out of stock?

We aim to regularly update the shop with new beauties, and can offer resizing or restock on some of our pieces. Just reach out to our team at info@gardensofthesun.com!


I loved a one of a kind or limited edition piece, but it sold already. Can you make me another one?

Sadly, once a limited edition or one of a kind piece sells, we are usually not able to make another. Most of these designs are limited in quantity due to stone availability. 


However, we might have another similar gemstone or diamond to make you a piece just like it. Just check-out our build-your-own section or drop us a message!

I want to get a Hidden Gems ring. My size is out of stock. Can you make it in my size?

We often restock these rings, as they always sell out quickly! The sizes listed are the sizes in stock. Is your size out of stock? Select " pre-order your size” on our website. Just add a note during check-out to let us know what size you need and we'll make it for you in around 6 weeks. 

My Hidden Gems ring is too big / too small. Can you resize it?

Unfortunately we can’t resize these rings, as the stones are set with tension. Resizing basically means remaking the ring from scratch. 


BUT! Good news! You can return the ring and exchange it for another one. Contact us within 14 days at info@gardensofthesun.com with your order number so we can discuss specifics.

Can you make me a custom hidden gems ring with 7 different birthstones in it?

We’d love to make you a ring with multiple varieties of stones, but we can’t do this due to the difference in size, shape and hardness of these stones. We recommend stacking them instead!

Can you make me a custom piece of jewelry / Do you make custom jewelry? 

Yes! We’ve got a custom ring service, which we’d love for you to try.


There are so many parts that you can customize yourself. You can select the diamond or gemstone, metal, and setting. You even get to choose whether you’d like to add any small diamonds or side stones.

I have a heirloom stone / inherited a stone / have some old jewelry. Can you turn this into a custom piece of jewelry for me? 

At the moment we only work with stones that we source ourselves. 

Can I purchase just the setting? So the ring without the stone. 

No. We only sell our designs as completed pieces, with all of the stones we sourced in line with our sourcing principles and set by our expert metalsmiths.

Can you use moissanite instead of a diamond in your jewelry designs?

No. We don’t work with moissanite. Sorry about that! 


I'm worried about blood diamonds. Do you offer ethically sourced diamonds?

Yes we do! Like, really honestly conflict-free. 


This means, in some cases, the diamond is traceable, and extraction is well regulated. It also means the journey of getting that diamond piece to you as a part of your #OOTD did not involve any conflict, like the funding of rebel groups and other kinds of shady kerfuffle. 


Since November 2018, we only buy diamonds where we know at least the country of origin of. For our Indonesian diamonds, we can also guarantee you that these have been mined by artisanal miners and are cut by independent cutters. 


Many of our Canadian and Australian diamonds even come with a certificate of origin. How cool is that!

What makes your ethical gold or eco gold different? 

Our signature ethical gold is 18 karat gold. The difference is in how it's mined - so the ethics behind it. 


Regular gold is from an unknown origin. No one will be able to tell you under what conditions or by whom it was mined. It's likely that this dirty gold contributes to issues in the air, under the ground and across communities. 


In contrast, our ethical gold is mined by a group of indigenous women that we partner with exclusively. They've agreed to no longer use mercury (which is super toxic to the environment), and in exchange we pay them a premium for their gold. So we know exactly which village it's from, we know it's legal, we know the environmental impact it has and we know that we're supporting indigenous women :) 


In terms of quality there's no difference! But I'm pretty sure that jewelry made with our ethical gold will make you sleep better.

Who runs Gardens of the Sun?

Gardens of the Sun is owned and run by Meri Geraldine. Born and raised in the Netherlands, and living in Indonesia for over a decade. You can read more about Meri and the rest of our team

Where does the brand name "Gardens of the Sun" come from?

The name of the shop, Gardens of the Sun, comes from an old journal about Borneo island written by an explorer from the 19th century. The journal described the exotic jungles of the tropical islands of Borneo and Sulawesi. His description of the home of the Dayaks, rare birds, and curious animals opened up a whole new world for Meri.


Who is this lady Meri who keeps sending me sweet love notes?

LOL. Meri is the founder and creative mind behind Gardens of the Sun. She loves sending love letters and sharing her personal journey via our newsletter. If you're not yet on the newsletter, trust me, you want in

Where are you located? 

The design studio is a hop, a skip, and a jump away from the beach in Bali, Indonesia (yes, that's as amazing as it sounds). The actual magic (i.e. jewelry making) happens in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.


Where is your jewelry made?

All of our jewelry is crafted lovingly in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. You can read interviews with our goldsmiths and silversmiths

Do you have a real shop I can visit when I'm in Bali?

At the moment we only have an online shop, and our studio is not open for public. 


Early 2020, about a month before lockdowns started in Europe, we rented this tiny storefront right on the beach. As Bali is still closed for international travelers, we've decided to put the store opening on hold.

Is all your jewelry really handmade?

It sure is! All of our jewelry is created by an experienced silversmith or master goldsmith. Even the packaging is handmade. The personal touch is one of the best things about anything from Gardens of the Sun.

Ethics

What makes Gardens of the Sun an ethical jewelry brand?

We love jewelry. But the jewelry industry has a huge problem with environmental damage and human rights abuses. Like you, we care for our planet, its people and animals, and we want to live in a world that’s sustainable and fair. These values are reflected in our business choices. 


We only source gemstones and diamonds when our suppliers can tell us the country of origin - ideally a more detailed location and information about who cut the stones. A verbal or written guarantee from our supplier that a diamond is conflict free isn’t enough. We have a strict sourcing policy in place. 


We’re working to create shorter and fully transparent supply chains for diamonds and sapphires from artisanal miners in Kalimantan. The first fully traceable sapphire jewelry is available here


Since January 2020, we only use our ethically sourced gold from indigenous women miners in Kalimantan for our gold jewelry. Our ethical gold uses less harmful chemicals, involve no heavy machinery, no deep digging, and it’s sourced domestically rather than imported to reduce our carbon footprint. We’re slowly phasing out the use of regular gold from unknown origin. 


Since September 2020, we use exclusively recycled silver for everything we make in house. This means our chains and locks are regular silver, until we find a good source for those too. 


We use plastic-free packaging made from banana paper. 


Our actual jewelry is made by a trusted partner who works exclusively with Gardens of the Sun and provides living wages. They hire fairly and do not discriminate against persons with a physical disability and/or those who are illiterate. 


All our employees that have passed the trial period receive health insurance coverage, access to our bicycle fleet, daily fresh fruits and infused water, and a weekly yoga class.


The only animal products we use are cultured pearls. 


We plant 5 trees for every piece of jewelry sold in collaboration with the Eden Reforestation Projects.

How much is sales tax?

Sales tax is included in the price you see on the website. The only surcharge you might see is for shipping, if your order value is below $250. 

What payment methods do you accept?

We currently accept payments via Credit Card, Paypal, Apple Pay, and Bank transfer. 


If you're based in the US, we offer payment plans with Sezzle where you can pay for your jewelry over time with zero interest! :)

Do I need an account to make a purchase?

You don't need an account to make a purchase. You have the option to check out as a guest.

Do you ever offer discounts?

Occasionally we do have some special offers. Our best deals go to our Insider List first - you can join the newsletter here (it's a good one).


For existing clients we also have a secret Facebook group where we do regular mini sales. 


Do you offer layaway, buy now pay later or payment plants?
