Your custom ring design
Recycled sterling silver
We work with a local refiner who recycles silver from post-consumer sources, like old jewelry, silverware, and even silver recovered from x-rays and other medical waste. This doesn’t stop new silver from being mined (most silver is a byproduct of other metals anyway), but it does cut emissions by about 8x compared to newly mined silver. And it keeps what already exists in circulation, instead of letting it go to waste.
Want to join in? If you have old silver jewelry or silverware gathering dust, you can bring it to our showroom. We’ll recycle it and give you shop credit in return.

Setting
You can choose between a bezel setting, which has the silver all the way around the stone and a prong setting, where small claws hold the stone. Not sure which setting is right for you? Compare bezel vs prong setting here.

Round spinel
- SPS03 - 0.92 ct midnight blue spinel from Sri Lanka. Eye clean, tiniest scratch on surface. Measures 5.8 x 5.8 x 3.5 mm.
- SPS04 - 0.99 ct pinkish purple spinel from Sri Lanka. Included clarity. Measures 6.4 x 6.4 x 3.2 mm.
- SPS06 - 1.01 ct deep purple spinel from Sri Lanka. Eye clean with a dark shade of purple that gives the gemstone a mysterious and elegant look. Measures 5.9 x 5.9 x 3.8 mm.
- SPS07 - 0.75 ct rose purple spinel from Sri Lanka. A vibrant and cheerful color, slightly included clarity and a sparkling round cut. Measures 5.6 x 5.6 x 3.1 mm.
- SPS08 - 0.72 ct blue spinel from Sri Lanka. Included clarity but gotta love that color - blue with a light wash of steel undertones. Measures 5.3 x 5.3 x 3.6 mm.
- SPS09 - 0.76 ct cool lavender spinel from Sri Lanka. Rather deep pavilion, so I’d suggest opting for an open bezel setting for this gem. Measures 5 x 5 x 3.9 mm. Since this stone has a higher profile, an open bezel setting would be the most elegant choice. A regular bezel setting or basket prong setting may look bulky.
- SPS14 - 0.50 ct round spinel from Mae Sai, Thailand. The purple color is similar to a pale amethyst. Measures 4.8 x 4.8 x 3.1 mm.
Radiant cut spinel
- SPS01 - 0.71 ct long rectangular spinel in a blueish purple color. Mined and cut in Sri Lanka. One visible inclusion. Measures 7.1 x 4 x 2.5 mm.
- SPS02 - 1.07 ct rectangular spinel from Sri Lanka. Dark purple color. Eye clean. Measures 7.3 x 4.8 x 3.4 mm - nice size.
- SPS05 - 0.93 ct reddish purple spinel from Sri Lanka. This rectangular scissor cut spinel is dark and smoky, with a deep color. Pair with diamonds to really bring out its mysterious shades. Measures 7.5 x 4.2 x 3.2 mm.
Hexagon cut spinel
- SPS15 - 0.48 ct hexagon cut spinel from Mae Sai, Thailand. White spinel with pale blush undertones and tiny inclusions like a galaxy of stars. This white spinel is a magical one! Measures 4.9 x 4.5 x 3.06 mm.
- SPS16 - 0.72 ct steel blue spinel with an elongated hexagon cut. SI clarity. Mined in Mae Sai, Thailand. Measures 5.7 x 5.3 x 3.57 mm.

I'm very happy with how my ring turned out and the excellent customer service at Gardens of the Sun. I'll give some context on why i chose Gardens of the Sun. I had gotten married and my husband and I bought each other simple wedding bands. The entire process of getting married was very simple and happened fairly quickly, we had no engagement and thus no engagement rings and our ceremony was a quick solemnisation witnessed by 50 of our closest friends and family members. My husband wanted to gift me with another ring, this time with a diamond or gemstone topping it. And because of my picky nature, he let me choose the shop and design myself. Of course I wanted a gorgeous ring but what was equally important to me were three additional requirements: I wanted the ring to come from a small company, not large brands like Tiffany; I wanted the ring to improve and support the community it operates it and not just profiting the owners; and I wanted all the components of the ring to be sourced ethically. It was mightily difficult to find a company that meets my requirements and falls within the budget so I was very much over the moon when i found Gardens of the Sun on instagram!
I can't emphasize enough how beautiful the ring in person, I gasped when I first saw it. The gemstone is a 2.44 carat sapphire sourced from Tanzania. I love its details like the minor inclusions and how in different lights, it could look mossy-green or verdant green.
Thank you to the team, especially Rissa for patiently answering my numerous queries! If you're considering getting a custom ring, do it! My only advice is that it does take quite a long time (at least 10 weeks) so do factor that into your timeline!
