Sapphire ranks a 9 on Mohs scale of hardness with excellent toughness. Sapphire is perfect for everyday wear. This is because sapphire is less likely to chip or crack than a diamond. It also doesn’t scratch easily.
Common sapphire treatments:

Sapphire cleaning, care and caution:
Both treated and untreated sapphires are generally very durable and can be cleaned with an ultrasonic or steam cleaner, with the exception of lead glass filled sapphires. Still, the safest way to clean your sapphire jewelry is with warm, soapy water. For natural cleaning, use our soap nut wash.

Ever wonder how sapphires end up in so many colors? It’s chemistry, earth magic, if you will.
Sapphires are made of corundum, a crystal that’s usually colorless. But toss in a dash of trace minerals (a pinch of iron, a sprinkle of titanium, a whisper of chromium) and the color changes. That’s how sapphires get their hues: from quiet little impurities doing the most.
Blue sapphires? Thank the iron and titanium duo. Together, they make that deep, dreamy blue that everyone thinks of first.
Yellow sapphire and green sapphire contain trace amounts of iron, comes from the presence of chromium, iron and titanium, and s get their color from trace amounts of chromium.
Yellow sapphire and green sapphire? That’s trace amounts of iron. The more iron, the more golden or grassy the color gets.
Chromium’s the romantic one. A little chromium gives you pink sapphire. A lot turns it red, and when that happens, it’s no longer a sapphire, it’s a ruby.
Vanadium and chromium like to mingle too. They make purple sapphire shifting into lavender sapphire or violet sapphire depending on the mix.
